First in our group of companies was Deas AS. It was established in 1992. It's main line of activities was and still is Scientific Research and development of new chemical compounds, new technologies and their scaling up for industrial production.
Few years later Grenkem was started as a chemicals export-import company. Grenkem is a member of Estonian Chemical Industry Association and Estonian Chamber of Trade and Commerce.
In late 1999 Grenkem and Deas AS merged their strengths and established a new Fine and Specialty Chemicals producer - Carboshale AS. Carboshale started to develop products out of alkylresorcinols and also started to produce alkylresorcinols in y 2000.
By year 2014 focus on development of aroma chemistry and food additives was transferred into a company called Grenkem.
The first aroma chemical we had in production was 3,5-dimethoxytoluene followed by Orcinyl-3 and p-orsellinic acid methyl ester, both having natural oakmoss notes. In 2015 we succeeded to develop a technology to produce Methyl atrarate (Evernyl, Veramoss).
Our area of Research is everything what is around alkylresorcinols – their occurrence in plants, their bioactivity and chemical properties, how to make them and how to derivatise them and of course, we are also looking for applications for them.
Naturally occurring alkylresorcinols and their derivatives are listed in numerous patents and scientific publications describing their bioactive properties –antibacterial, antifungal, enzyme inhibitory, anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, antioxydative, cholesterol lowering and other properties. Most of the research work is done in Japan, Korea and China as these compounds are listed in their ancient medicine.
Hereby we present you our products, their commercial applications and their potential applications. Our interest in cooperation is in finding partners from Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical or Beauty Care companies to develop new applications for our products.
Grifolin and neogrifolin
methylresorcinol itself as most of nature-derived alkylresorcinols is active compound in plant protection mechanisms.
